TfL’s licensing delays have left thousands of private hire drivers unable to work, often for many months. The consequences have been devastating. Some drivers have been forced to sell their vehicles, fall into debt, move home, leave the UK, and in at least one tragic case, fellow driver Rob Dale lost his life after suffering extreme stress his family fear was caused by the delays.
Unionised IWGB drivers have campaigned tirelessly to hold TfL to account. Together, we forced TfL to make systemic changes and helped many drivers get back on the road. These victories have not only helped drivers return to work, but have also forced TfL to change its processes, meaning fewer drivers are now affected by licensing delays.
But this is not the end of the story.
For many drivers and their families, the damage caused by TfL’s failures has been long-lasting. Months without income, mounting debt, and severe stress have left people still struggling to rebuild their lives. For some, the financial and emotional impact continues to be felt today.
This is unacceptable. TfL should not be allowed to walk away from the harm they caused.
If you were affected by the delays, please fill out this survey.
