Stuart Strike: Pay rise not pay cut!

The UK's longest-running gig economy strike has been going from strength to strength.

Couriers began strike action back on 6 December 2021 after Stuart cut the minimum delivery pay by 24%, from £4.50 to just £3.40. The strike has already won its demands for paid waiting times and a resolution to an insurance issue that was causing wrongful suspensions. Couriers are still calling on Stuart delivery to give a pay rise in line with rising costs of fuel and living expenses, and to implement a hiring freeze.

The strike continues to spread with coordinated actions taking place in Sheffield, Middlesbrough, Dewsbury, Chesterfield, Sunderland. There have also been solidarity actions from supporters of the union in London targeting key sites of DPD, Stuart's parent company, and Just Eat, Stuart's contractor.

Solidarity has been pouring in. There have been over 900 donations to the strike fund and we have also received big donations from other trade unions including the CWU and the RMT. Meanwhile, 32 MPs have signed our Early Day Motion endorsing the workers' demands for a pay rise. We have also had solidarity from the CGT union in France. They have called on Stuart’s parent company, La Poste, France’s publicly-owned postal service, to intervene in favour of the workers.
