BAME Officer Election

This year there is a contested election for the role of BAME Officer. The two candidates are Mohaan Biswas from the Couriers and Logistics Branch and Abdel Wahab from United Private Hire Drivers.

Because there is more than one candidate, this election is being held by a postal ballot throughout August. Results will be announced at the AGM on 10th September.

As this is a position to represent Black, Asian, Latin American and minority ethnic members, we ask that only members that identify as Black, Asian, Latin American or minority ethnic vote.

Please post your completed ballot paper so that it arrives by 5pm on Wednesday 7th September. You do not have to pay anything for postage. The results will be announced at the AGM on 10th September.

If you have not received your ballot paper by Monday 8th August, it may be because your address is incorrect on the union's database. If you think this might be the case, please update your details and send an email to taisietsikas@iwgb.co.uk to request a new ballot paper.

Mohaan Biswas

My name is Mohaan and I'm standing for BAME officer. I am a motorcycle courier and member of the Couriers & Logistics Branch.

I joined the IWGB while taking action against Deliveroo in 2016. Over the past 6 years I have worked with members of the branch to organise and build our power to fight against the inequality and injustice faced by our members. I have also worked with members across branches to strengthen our democracy and amplify the ability of members to set direction within the union as a whole.

If elected the following principles will be my focus:

Taking action! We win when we take action. We want to find new ways to build campaigns that can win. Action is not a last resort, but it builds organisation, power, and our union.

Building Workers’ Power! We want to build a union that makes every member part of the movement and empowered. This means building the confidence and capacity of members across branches.

Solidarity matters! The diversity of our union's membership is its strength. We bring together workers from different communities and sectors to fight together. We want to share our struggles and learn from each other.

If elected, I want to help grow the IWGB into a stronger union. We can build on our history and these principles to take the union forward. This means organising, supporting new leaders, building effective structures, and winning campaigns.
