On the 3rd of January 2015 protesters arrived outside John Lewis on Oxford St at 2pm. At the last protest 3 members were arrested by the police, and this time the protest was had been widely publicised, so there was a predicatably large police presence. Inside the store, contract security guards were positioned at all entrances.
The protesters were there calling for their pay to be raised to £9.15 per hour, the London Living Wage, which is already payed by 650 companies to their employees, including KPMG, Nationwide & Tate.
The cleaners feel as they are being treated like 2nd class citizens.
The Green Party’s Baroness Jenny Jones attended, showing her support for the IWGB union, which represents the affected workers.
